Writing bad checks was grounds for a discharge and possible jail. When Tom looked at the name, he was dumbfounded. It was the troop leader.
Tom had him ushered into the office after formation and showed him the notice and asked for an explanation. The troop leader’s exact words were: “Gee, Lieutenant,
how’d I know there was no money in the bank? We still got checks in the register.”
